The Exorcist follows the story of a 12-year old girl possessed by a mysterious supernatural entity in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington. The girl suffers several nightmares and demonic imagery, so her mother seeks the help of two priests to perform exorcism to save her daughter.

The movie is based on the novel “The Exorcist” by William Peter Blatty. The novel was inspired by an article the author read in college at Georgetown University about an exorcism performed on a 13-year old boy in Mount Rainier, Maryland in 1949.

“The Exorcist” is regarded as the mother of all exorcism movies. It won 2 Oscars in 1973, and currently has a IMDb rating of 8.

This 1974 horror movie, based on real life, follows the story of five young friends traveling through rural Texas area to visit their grandfather’s house. The five are eventually haunted and fall prey to chain-saw wielding killer, including Leatherface, and his family of grave-robbing cannibals.

The character of Leatherface in this Tobe Hooper’s movie was directly based upon the legendarily depraved 1950s looney, Ed Gein. Like Leatherface, Gein wore masks sewn from the skin of his victims and performed several acts of cannibalism that were once reported to have killed five young innocent people.

“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” was ranked 195th in “Sight and Sound Critics’ Top 250 (2012)”.

Psycho’s movie story is about Norman Bates, a psychologically disturbed young hotel owner who has delusions that his dead mother, whose body he has kept in his cellar, wants to kill his hotel’s guests. He eventually develops a dual personality and dresses like her when he commits his murder. A Phoenix secretary steals $40,000 from her employer’s client, goes on the run in the same hotel and falls prey of Bates.

The character of Norman Bates was inspired by Ed Gein, the same Wisconsin man whose activities were portrayed by the character “Leatherface” in “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. Ed Gein was arrested in 1957 for killing two people and digging up the corpses of countless other women who reminded him of his mother.

“Psycho” is arguably the best work of the legendary director Alfred Hitchcock. The film has been widely acclaimed by critics since 1960, and is ranked 35th in “Sight and Sound Critics’ Top 250 (2012)”.
